Plan for Speed
Fast implementations are one of the beauties of cloud software. In a recent interview, Steve Miranda, Oracle executive vice president of application development, shared three tactics companies use to keep their cloud projects on time and on target.

  • Customize Where You're Unique: Pick the area that really differentiates your business or industry, and spend time personalizing and precisely configuring cloud software for that area.
  • For All Else, Follow Best Practices: For applications that aren't strategic differentiators, rely on the best practices built into cloud applications. Don't try to customize the app to fit existing processes.
  • Plan for Speed: During big software projects, hundreds of small decisions need to be made about configuration and design, but very few require input from a lot of stakeholders. Smart companies make those small decisions quickly, knowing they can go back and refine them. "They get that value of the initial go-live, they learn from it, and they change," Miranda said.
