The time has come for the largest cloud providers to break down their walled gardens and “gracefully” integrate their systems, Larry Ellison, Oracle’s chairman and CTO, asserted at his Oracle CloudWorld keynote.

Ellison welcomed onstage AWS CEO Matt Garman to discuss the strategic collaboration that will soon deliver Oracle Database@AWS. Both business leaders said their customers had been asking repeatedly for the companies to work together—and they listened. The AWS alliance comes on the heels of similar partnerships with Google and Microsoft, as Oracle looks to usher in a truly open era of cloud, one where complex applications can be built of components that span providers and technologies.
