Simple Is Hard
In the keynote at Oracle Code in Los Angeles—the first in a 14-city tour of events for developers—Venkat Subramaniam described the art of simplicity and why complexity so often creeps in. Subramaniam, president of Agile Developer and an instructional professor at the University of Houston, applied the lessons to software development, but they really fit every aspect of technology (and business).

Complex applications may make us feel smart, because we may worry that presenting a simple option makes our problem look not so hard after all, he warned. We gravitate toward familiar, comfortable solutions, even when a less familiar option might be simpler. But the payoff from simple solutions is huge, as they’re less likely to cause problems over time.

Four Things CEOs Should Know About Serverless Computing
Serverless cloud computing still involves lots of servers. What makes it “serverless” is that developers, IT administrators, and business leaders don’t have to think about those servers. In the serverless model, online computing power gets tapped automatically only at the moment it’s needed. This can save organizations money and, just as importantly, make the IT organization more agile.
