SAP TechEd Las Vegas – Going Boldly Beyond, ABAP to the Cloud, and What Can Your Data Do for You?
In his keynote address at SAP TechEd in Las Vegas last week, Bjoern Goerke, SAP's Chief Technology Officer and President SAP Cloud Platform, announced that SAP is going to make the ABAP runtime available on the SAP Cloud Platform (SCP). During the keynote, staged on a replica of the Starship Enterprise command deck, Bjoern and company defined and demoed SAP's latest innovations. "It's no secret that I'm a big science-fiction fan and fascinated by space travel," he said. "I thought hard about which theme to pick for the SAP TechEd 2017 keynote. Just picking a theme to geek out to is no option. Fortunately, we found the perfect setting to talk about digital transformation and its accompanying challenges this year: Star Trek and the adventures of the USS Enterprise." The theme fits with the bold direction and pioneering spirit into unchartered territory of what SAP Cloud Platform is today.
The big news to come out of SAP TechEd Las Vegas last week was the announcement that SAP is going to make ABAP runtime available in the SAP Cloud platform. Read more about it in this overview of ABAP in the Cloud Platform
and the set of FAQs. Then dive further into SAP Mentor Graham Robinson's ABAP to the Cloud for further insight. For example, Graham points out those who have kept up to date with the latest ABAP features, and the roadmap, will be aware that ABAP continues to be enhanced and improved to support the current and emerging needs of the enterprise. What is often overlooked when discussing ABAP versus other languages is the amazing capabilities built into the ABAP runtime environment – capabilities that ABAP developers can take for granted. Things like security, workflow, content management, etc. provide enterprise grade features that the ABAP developer can simply make use of as needed.
If you create a story in SAP Lumira 2.0 Discovery, then open that same document in SAP Lumira 2.0 Designer and create a new application, you may notice something. The story that you created in Discovery is available in the Components palette. In this blog series, SAP Mentor David Stocker highlights SAP Lumira 2.0 designer in great detail. The blog series covers what composites are and what they are good for. He'll also walk you through how to build a simple composite and make use of it. By part 6, he's looking at interface properties and interface functions.
Although the term "big data" has been in existence since the early 90s, its recent popularity can be attributed to the open source community that has released tools and frameworks to store, process, and analyze data that either does not fit or is unsuitable for traditional transactional databases. In this blog post, SAP's Bernd Leukert reports on how often he hears that big data sources such as the Internet of Things and social media have challenged a company's entire approach to data management. The architecture of centralized and traditionally on-premise data systems no longer meets their needs when it comes to handling large volumes of distributed data arriving at such a high velocity.
