Databases: Pick Wisely
It's pretty easy these days to grab a database and plug it into your development project—especially if you don't think too much about how it will be used down the road, when your beautiful application gets hammered by millions of users and devices and mercilessly probed by hackers. The good news is that Andy Mendelsohn, executive vice president of database server technologies at Oracle, has been thinking about it—a lot. Mendelsohn shared with Profit magazine how his team remains committed to carrying database customers through their toughest problems, such as security and reliability, while paving their way to meeting new challenges such as big data and in-memory analytics and, of course, the transition to the cloud. "Customers trust that Oracle is going to continue to innovate to remain the #1 database," he says. See how Mendelsohn and his team are guiding customers through these technology transitions and those that lie ahead.

Three Ways to Move On-Premises Workloads to the Cloud
Three Ways to Move On-Premises Workloads to the Cloud
To help minimize the cost of a cloud lift-and-shift while controlling its scope, Oracle's Steve McMillan proposes three strategies for gradually transitioning to the cloud. One, move an entire line of business or business function—such as finance, sales, or service—to software as a service. Discover the other two.
Code Much? Let's Hear from You
Developers face problems that didn't exist even a few years ago: their apps support millions or billions of users, must stay online 24/7, and are accessed from anywhere on any device. That's why Oracle is launching a new global event series, called Oracle Code, for developers. "It's not to talk about products or commercial solutions," says Bruno Borges, an Oracle product manager and open source evangelist. "We're focused on providing information that addresses what developers need to know these days." Learn how to attend—or speak at—one of the events.
Mired in a Cloud Debate? Try 'Cloudification' Instead
Too many public cloud providers have this simple message: start all over again in my cloud, and never go anywhere else. That's much harder than it looks. Cloudification—the process of progressively making an enterprise IT environment more cloudlike—may be a better choice. Cloudification focuses on the transformational journey, not the physical location. Learn more, and see a real-world example from Oracle's Chuck Hollis.
