Chasing a Bigger Goal
Having set the world land speed record back in 1997, at 763 mph, a UK-based team is now going after the once-unthinkable 1,000-mph mark as part of a data-intensive endeavor known as the Bloodhound Project. The data analysis the Bloodhound team performs on its supersonic car, using Oracle Cloud, will inform ongoing design and engineering decisions as it readies its vehicle to make history on Southern Africa's Kalahari Desert sometime in 2019.

The project's broader goal: inspire a new generation of engineers and scientists. The project, which shares its car data directly with UK primary and other schools for use in their courses, is in a unique position to get youngsters interested in STEM, because it links the rigors of those subjects to the excitement of extreme sport and competition. How it works.
