Future—and Futuristic—Development
Cloud-native development is changing the way developers work. Modern cloud architectures are making it possible to develop modular applications more quickly, and they enable communications about architecture among developers—communications that are critical in the development of APIs, microservices, machine learning, chatbots, and more.
Oracle Magazine Editor-in-Chief Tom Haunert recently caught up with Amit Zavery, senior vice president of integration products at Oracle, to discuss cloud-native architectures and how they're supporting cloud services. The big change, according to Zavery, is the move from a big bang release approach to a combination of Agile development and continuous integration and delivery methodologies. What Are the Top Trends in the EPM Cloud?
Recently Oracle surveyed more than 400 decision-makers to learn about their experiences in using enterprise performance management software in the cloud and their plans for 2017–18. What did the survey show? For one thing, organizations whose planning and budgeting are in the cloud cited the biggest decrease in spreadsheet use, followed by those with sales planning and forecasting. Discover the other top trends.
Better, Faster, Business-Driven Software Development
Microservices break applications into small software pieces, making them easier to maintain, evolve, test, and deploy. "Businesses want to innovate faster," CloudFoundry.com founder Chris Richardson said during a March 21 keynote at Oracle Code in New York. "What that means for software developers is that we have to build better software, faster." Software developers can do so by organizing into small teams, reducing the time involved in defining business requirements, and increasing deployment frequency. The three keys you must know.
In Cloud Debate, TCO Wins the Day
The cloud is the obvious next move when it comes time to update or upgrade IT systems as they age out, according to business and technology leaders speaking at Oracle Industry Connect in Orlando, Florida, on March 21. The cloud is also not as rigid as some people would have you believe. Indeed, using platform as a service (PaaS) to enhance SaaS applications means that "the ability to extend is still there," said Jeffrey Warren, Oracle vice president of solutions management. What questions came up in the audience Q&A?
The Cloud Paves the Way to More-Profitable Highway Construction
The cloud doesn't change how Rogers Group builds a road, but it does change how information moves through the business. For example, Rogers Group is using Oracle Mobile Cloud Service to free construction managers from the on-premises Oracle E-Business Suite system; using tablets, they can check their daily production schedule on any job. Three more ways the company is making its people more productive.
