Considering it for a small onboarding app. Anyone running Extend apps in production?

Depends heavily on your customizations. Inventory them first, then decide.

We did this last year. Biggest lesson: start data migration earlier than you think.
We tried the opposite and regretted it, so +1 to this.
Talk to your users before you decide. They know where the pain is.
