On the latest release with a small team. Any lessons learned, tools or pitfalls to avoid?

Agree with the above. Also check the user group forums, lots of good threads there.
Test with real data, not just the happy path. That's where we found most issues.
We automated most of it with a testing tool. Worth every penny.
We used a contractor for the tricky part and it paid off.
