Context: coming off a rough upgrade last year. I've read the docs but would love real-world experience.

Talk to the end users early. They'll tell you where the real pain is.
Our partner suggested the same approach and it worked well for us.
Agree with the above. Also check the user group forums, lots of good threads there.
Don't skip the cutover rehearsal. Do two if you can.
Test with real data, not just the happy path. That's where we found most issues.
