Containers Throughout the Stack
Containers are a mainstay of enterprise computing today because companies in this digital economy need an easier way to deploy applications. But cloud computing suppliers aren't all equal when it comes to container strategy, Oracle's John Fowler explains. At Oracle, "we diverge strongly from just having containers at the application level. We also have containers at our middleware and database levels," Fowler says. "But the interesting and powerful part is that the containers in the middleware and database stack understand those pieces of software. So the whole administrative model is natural to the database as opposed to being separate."

In Oracle Database 12c, for example, the container concept is integrated, making it much more efficient to create and manage databases. The goal: containers you can trust for stability and security, so you can stay focused on speedy innovation.

Measuring Value in the Digital Age: Finance's Role
When Oracle made its dramatic business model shift to the cloud, Oracle's finance team was called on to help craft new key performance indicators (KPIs). "Bookings, provisioning, lead times, renewals, contract base, contract length, churn rates, billing requirements, and waterfall schedules were just some of the KPIs we examined," says Ivgen Guner, senior vice president, Global Business Finance. Application User Experience Must Reflect Corporate Culture
A cloud application's design must not only be beautiful, but also must promote acceptance and participation, says Jeremy Ashley, Oracle's UX group leader. How? "The answer lies in simplicity. An application's user experience should help you identify your most important tasks and do them quickly and easily." Learn more from Ashley about how Oracle drives the continuous visual evolution of its cloud products.
