Speed Is Key to Leveraging New Technologies
Lots of big companies are embracing cloud services, but only a relative few are going all in. Office Depot is doing just that, consolidating its HR, financial management, and supply chain applications into three Oracle Cloud services, a move that’s in step with the retailer’s IT modernization strategy and its transition to becoming more of a business and technology services provider.

The main goals of this huge software-as-a-service migration: reduce costs, get faster access to the latest application features, make it easier to share and analyze data across departments, and standardize processes. “If we did not figure out how to leverage newer technologies and vendor investments faster, we as a company would be left behind,” says Office Depot’s Damon Venger.

Sim International rents cameras, lighting equipment, and studio space—and provides editing services—to movie and TV studios such as Universal, Warner Bros., and Netflix. Its biggest problem: getting accurate financial reports from eight reporting systems, which could take weeks, sometimes months. A cloud-based system changed that.
